Who shall save the day? The title translates to this. What kind of a movie are you in for today?
I can assure you it’s one that you have never watched before.
The other day I was discussing with Ananth Krishnan, that there are theories that there are about 10 films you can make, and the rest are just permutations and combinations of the same, presented in maybe a different manner. Maybe that’s why films are global and a language onto themselves. With subtitles and a little bit of attention, anyone anywhere in the world can enjoy foreign films easily. If you have felt that the movies that you watch are very predictable, and want to try something to spice up your relationship with films, this is the movie you must watch.
Brochevarevarura (2019) is a very technical film, and a very brave attempt in filmmaking. There are very few films that made me scratch my head, and made me think “what the heck is going on?”, ” I gotta finish this” and really excited for the second half, after the Interval. This was one such film, another one that suddenly comes to my mind is Adventures of Omanakuttan (2017), which is of a similar genre in a way coming to think of it. I actually have a word for it, but I’m not blurting it out and spoiling your experience. Huge respect to the makers of Brochevarevarura (2019) for ditching all sorts of rules, and existing frameworks and delving straight into unchartered territory. There are no safety blankets, measures or precautions here, just sheer courage and the result is commendable without a doubt.
The future awaits for those who can find order in chaos.
Verdict – 5/7 stars
