Rocket Singh is an off-beat film by Ranbir Kapoor and Yash Raj Films released in the year 2009. It has been 13 years since the film was launched, still, it is one of the most loved movies in Indian cinema. Rocket Singh is a comedy-drama film that tells the story of Harpreet Singh Bedi who passed B-com with 39% and aspires to become a salesman. He thinks only a good salesman can become a good entrepreneur.
The film starts with Mr. Singh (Ranbir Kapoor) giving a DJ party to his friends after passing B.com with a-year back. While his friends are doing well in life, he wants to be a salesman and starts applying for every sales job that he comes across. He eventually gets into a PC assembling company just because of his never say die attitude. The next 30 mins of the film present the life of a typical budding salesperson who is trying their best to close deals with clients. The film challenges ethics in businesses by narrating an incident that changes the life and thought process of a salesman entirely. What should a salesman do when they are caught in the middle of ethics and targets. At what point a salesman should know that it is time to withdraw from a client, keeps the story going.
People wishing to try their luck in the corporate world can always learn so much from Rocket Singh. This movie starring Ranbir Kapoor has given me some of the most important lessons of life. While the movie is filled with many inspirational dialogues, some dialogues will even give you serious business and marketing goals. Like the dialogue “Even Spiderman takes risks, then why can’t a salesman like me do it?”. The film is full of inspirational as well as emotional situations that a Salesman turned Entrepreneur goes through in his life to achieve his goals. It is a must-watch film for Sales as well as Entrepreneurship aspirants. The climax is predictable but the scenarios leading to it are worth watching.
Verdict : 5/7 stars
Prem Chopra who plays grandfather to Ranbir Kapoor in reality their relationship is very similar. Prem Chopra is uncle to Rishi Kapoor as Prem Chopra’s Wife and Rishi Kapoor’s mother are real life sisters.
Ranbir Kapoor played a Sardar for the first time.
The film didn’t fare well when released, even though Ranbir had given back to back hits and was going through a purple patch before Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009).
Manish Chaudhary became a notable actor with this film.
