Full-on arrangements are underway for the engagement of Suja with Lakshmikanthan. She has second thoughts about her marriage and tries various ways and means to escape it. A financial crisis surfaces, along with the arrival of a few family members which adds to the dismay of the central characters.

Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam is set in Kanhangad, a modest town in northern Kerala.  It’s minimally shot on the premises of a house with a pool of characters, in such a way that even the smallest of their dialogues endorses the movie by drawing up some details, integral to the plot. The continuous flow of humour through prosaic things in a realistic and unstructured way holds the film in a class of it’s own.

The Director Senna Hegde mentioned he would like to make all his movies in Kanhangad because he is familiar and comfortable in that space and his films share their way of life. He has perfumed every frame with original reflection, a closer view of our patriarchal society and the struggles in the conventional marriage system in a sarcastic tone.

With freshness in casting with no popular faces, Manoj KU as Vijayan was exceptional among the cast. Anagha Narayanan as Suja, Unnimaya Nalappadam as Surabhi and Ranji Kanjol as Gireesh, and the other talents set a new surge in Malayalam cinema.

The conflicts between a dictator and democrats, ingeniously placed inside the movie were fantastic. The movie makes you feel and experience the development of the characters and the events happening around them and turns it into chaos. It is not all about a tenacious man who believes in the dogmas of patriarchal society and beholding his masculine pride but is eventually pointing to the acceptance that the times have changed and he shouldn’t control the will and desires of his children nor the progressively emerging society.

Senna mentioned that he was writing events that rendered the film rather than penning it as a whole. It felt like he was sitting in a chair and peeking into people around and hand-picking the spices that were needed to make a delicious recipe. Thinakalazcha Nishchayam is surprisingly original with seamless writing and stellar performances that brings out one of the finest entertainers of this year.

 Verdict : 5/7 stars

Excellent.
