In Memoriam Sachy(1972-2020)

Have you heard of Kummatti, not the Thrissur one, the Mundoor  Kummatti”

A scuffle snowballs into a conflict which in turn escalates to combat due to patriarchal arrogance, eventually leading to an all-out brawl for supremacy is Ayyappan and Koshy(AK) to put it simply.  Director and scriptwriter, Sachy has penned a dialogue-driven script that propels the movie to another plane without relying on over the top pyro techniques or graphics. The film is raw and grounded with dialogues that pulsate far and wide

Resembling Sachy’s Driving License that came before, AK also narrates a duel which spirals out of control. Unforeseen circumstances cause an influential and wealthy ex- Havildar to lock horns with a sub-inspector in Attapadi. Attapadi is a reserve forest in Kerala, its tribal culture and scenic beauty is well blended with the movie.  The plot starts with a particular tone and maintains it throughout the movie. Reiterating again on the well-crafted dialogues which make it an engrossing 3-hour watch.

Kudos to Prithviraj for portraying that hubristic wealthy person who believes he could escape a tumultuous situation using his influence. But Biju Menon takes the cake for his depiction of the unyielding force of nature that can topple the immovable object that obstructs his path. By and large, the film is a treat just for its dialogues with the stellar performance of the cast being the icing on the cake.

Verdict: 6/7 Stars.

Brilliant.

Trivia:

This movie was released around the time as another Malayalam Movie starring Prithviraj called “Driving Licence”. Both the movies have a similar story line where a rich guy has a confrontation with a dedicated government official. Prithviraj plays the rich guy in both movies. In the movie Driving licence, he plays a role of a movie hero and Introduction scene shows a new movie being released of Prithviraj’s charector; where director’s name is shown as Sachy ( who was the director of this movie).
